Rockhampton is a city located in Central Queensland, Australia. The city is home to an array of distinguished and famous people who have contributed significantly to the development of the region.

One of the most notable people from Rockhampton is singer-songwriter, Pete Murray. Born in 1969, Murray grew up in the city and later moved to Byron Bay where he started his music career. His debut album, "Feeler," was released in 2003 and gained critical acclaim, debuting at number one on the Aria Charts. Murray has gone on to release several more successful albums and has won multiple awards for his music.

Another famous person from Rockhampton is former Australian Prime Minister, Sir William Morris Hughes. Hughes was born in London in 1862 but moved to Australia in 1884 and eventually settled in Rockhampton. He was a prominent figure in Australian politics and served as Prime Minister from 1915-1923. Hughes led Australia through World War I and played a significant role in the establishment of the League of Nations.

Rockhampton is also home to Olympic swimmer, Karen Phillips. Phillips was born in 1953 and grew up in Rockhampton. She competed in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, winning a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle. Phillips went on to represent Australia in several more international competitions and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1993.

The city has also produced notable businessmen such as Tony Prentice, CEO of the Prentice Group, which is one of the largest privately-owned construction companies in Australia. Prentice grew up in Rockhampton and has gone on to achieve significant success in the business world.

Additionally, Rockhampton has produced writers and artists such as Lorna McDonald Cuerel, a poet and author whose writings often reflect the landscape and culture of the region. Cuerel was awarded the prestigious Patrick Prize for her work in 1976.
